You find no secret doors or anything else of interest in the room with the pedestal. (Moving the story along) You decide to go back out through the pool room, and the first room with all the towels and the marble bench, back out into the cavern, to check out the next door. While Wirlt listens at the door (she doesn't hear anything), Hagar and Chase cautiously approach the cliff you saw earlier. There are stairs leading down the drop to a lower part of the cavern, but otherwise, nothing particularly interesting about the cliff. Given where you were a few hours earlier, you guess that this cave passageway connects to the other passage with the statue where you found the secret compartment and poem. Next Step: Describe how you will proceed and then roll .turn dice.

You walk to the bottom of the stairs and can see that the cave passages do, in fact, connect. I'm posting an updated full map, with red circles around doors, archways, or passageways you have not explored yet. The door back at the top of the stairs is the closest. It is now 4:50 pm.

This is the same door that Wirlt listened at a few turns ago and heard nothing. She listens again and still hears nothing (based on her activity roll, she would have heard something if it was there), so you decide to enter the room. This room is white marble like the other nearby rooms, but it is filled with a thick mist. The room seems hotter than normal. The remains of rotted wooden benches line the walls. You spread out to search the room. After close inspection, you see that there are 16 holes drilled into the mosaic floor, at the center of each of the 4-pointed mosaic 4-pointed star decorations. Steam appears to be coming up through the holes. The door in the northwest wall of the room looks like it was once identical to the false door in the pool room, but apparently the heat and moisture have had the same effect on it as it had on the benches. It is rotting and falling apart so you can clearly see the stone wall behind it through large gaping holes in the rotten wood. It is now 5:00 pm. Chase feels his strength and constitution return to normal levels (after his encounter with the “laughing” pendant.) Next Step: Describe how you will proceed and then roll .turn dice.

Chase admires the room and says, “This is a nice room, I’d love to spend some time here in other circumstances. How about we use Leng’s secret passageway to head back to the horses and their kobold caretakers. Then we can get some sleep. At least that’s what I’d like to do.”

Your hike back to the Kobolds is fairly uneventful. As you pass by the young cave bear’s passageway, you hear it snoring, and it is not disturbed by your passing. You see and hear no other creatures in the hallways. Weert, Hagar, and Leng feel their strength and constitution (from the laughing pendant) return to them as you are walking. The Kobolds seem happy to see you again, and you have an uneventful and restful night. Weert and Leng regain their spells overnight, and are prepared for spell casting for the next day. You pay the Kobolds another gold piece for them to continue to care for the horses for another day. Next Step: Take a look at the last big map where I circled areas you had not explored as you decide where to explore next. The three passageways to the east will require opening 2 portcullises each in order to explore them, remember that when they dropped before, they made loud noises that may have attracted the goblin patrols. The red circle to the south was an unexplored archway. Describe how you will proceed and then roll .turn dice.

The Kobolds report that there was only the sound of one more group of marching goblins that went down the hall to the portcullis, then returned a few minutes later. The goblins appear to not be interested in the room they are in, considering there’s nothing of worth in it. After listening at the door and hearing nothing, you head out into the hall, turning left and heading south, then turning east toward the archway. Once you walk through it, you see that there are other archways beyond to the east and the south, where a north/south passage intersects with this east/west passageway. To the south, there is a door about 15 feet beyond the archway, then a door at the south end of the hallway 30 feet away. To the east, there is a door on the south side of the wall 25 feet beyond the archway, and the hall continues into the dark beyond. There is also a hallway opposite the door heading to the north. Wirlt listens at the door and hears nothing but silence. You open the door carefully, and see a small guard room. An overturned oaken table and three benches are all that remain. The floor is thickly covered with dust, and nothing seems to have disturbed it in a long time. There is a large sack in the southeast corner. Large blood stains are smeared on the floor beside it. On the east wall, a message has been scratched onto the wall with the point of a dagger. It reads: “Beware of Travis”. Next Step: Describe how you will proceed and then roll .turn dice.

Krislee pokes the bag once, and nothing happens. She pokes it again, and a spider runs out of it, scurries to the wall, and disappears into a crack in the mortar. Catching one end of the bag with the point of her sword, she lifts it up enough that the contents come pouring out. 3 human skulls, a dagger, a dagger blade, 11 silver pieces, and a bloody finger fall out. Several more spiders come running out of the skulls, and scurry away. Searching the room, Leng sees something poking out from under the table. Calling for help, several of you lift the table onto its side. Under the table were 2 long bows, and 2 quivers with 10 arrows in each. You find nothing else of interest in the room. You step out of the room and turn to the door on your right (south). Wirlt listens at the door and hears nothing, so you open the door, go down a flight of stairs to another door on your left (east). This large rectangular room contains many implements of torture. An iron maiden hangs in one corner. Rusted, long-neglected branding irons lie scattered among the filthy, blood-stained straw. Assorted sizes and lengths of chain encircle several skeletons hanging limply against the walls. Small wooden cages hang from the ceiling. Caught in the door of one is a bit of what appears to be a tattered nightgown. Several mice peer out of holes and cracks in the grey stone walls.

You move in to search the room. Before getting very far, you hear an insane laugh. Turning back toward the door, you see an old man, wielding a sword and a meat cleaver. Before you can react, he jumps to attack Weert, who is the closest to the door. As he attacks, he screams, “Travis knew you could not resist his treasure. No one could, not even Travis’ companions! Now you have come to steal Travis’ great treasure, so you must all die, just as the others before you!”

Round 2: Weert stumbles back toward the Iron Maiden to make sure there is distance between him and Travis, he will not attack this round. Chase, Hagar, Wirlt, Krislee, and Leng quickly surround Travis, attacking from all sides. Travis is a whirl of activity, attacking both with his sword and the meat cleaver. He moves with berserker-like movements (he gets a +2 to hit) and battle cries.
  • Chase is not able to hit or hurt Travis this round.
  • Lang swats Travis upside the head with his mace (hit for 5 hp damage!), temporarily knocking him sideways. While he appears to be hurt, he now seems angrier than he was before.
  • Krislee is not able to hit or hurt Travis this round.
  • Hagar isn’t able to hit him either.
  • Neither is Wirlt
  • While Travis is attacking furiously with both weapons, he is not able to hurt anyone this round. Round 3:
  • Chase is the first to swing his sword through Travis’ defenses, neatly lopping off his head (hit for 9 hp damage!). Travis crumples to the ground dead! You search his body and the room, but find nothing of value, except for Travis’ sword and meat cleaver, which are non-magical and of normal workmanship. Next Step:

“Looks like Weert took a pretty rough hit. Leng, anything you can do to help? I’ll guard the door until we are all ready to go.” Chase takes up a protective stance in front of the door. “After we rest up I’d love to see what is behind door number two.” Indicating the door further down the stairs.
