Round 1: Weert throws his dagger at the Diger, but misses, hitting a step in the pool only. Krislee swings her sword at the Diger, hitting it squarely for 8 hp of damage! You can see a visible ripple in the pool from the massive hit, creating waves of the “water” that spill over the edge of the pool onto the floor. Krislee’s sword swing splashes the “water” as well, and some splashes onto her own arm and Leng’s as well. Both can feel a numbing sensation from where the splashes landed. Both Krislee and Leng fail their Paralysis Saving Throw, so will attack at -1 next round. Chase swings his sword and misses, not swinging deeply enough to hit the Diger. He also splashes himself and Leng. Chase also fails his Saving Throw, so now Leng will be at -2 to attack next round and Chase at -1. Wirlt swings her sword at the Diger, but also misses. The splash from her sword lands on both Weert and herself. Weert fails his saving throw and will attack at -1 next round, Wirlt makes her saving throw (rolled a natural 20!) so is not affected. Leng swings his mace at the Diger, but misses too, splashing himself, Krislee, and Chase. Krislee is now at -2 to attack, Chase at -2 to attack, and Leng at -3 to attack next round. The Diger does nothing. Hagar has been under “water” for 10 seconds now. (edited)

Round 2: Weert, having no more weapons to throw, grabs his 50’ rope, quickly ties a lasso, and throws it into the pool, cinching it around Hagar’s upper body and one arm (rolled a 15 to attack, so I used that roll). He is able to quickly pull Hagar out of the pool, but the rope is all wet with the “water”. Weert makes his saving throw against paralysis, so will just have numb hands for a few minutes. Wirlt swings her sword again, this time connecting with the Diger, for 6 hp of damage, and it is is immediately evident that she killed it, as the huge transparent monster shrinks in size to a small convulsing ball of jelly in the middle of the pool. The “water” level also falls significantly and a steam starts to arise from the remaining puddle. Hagar regains consciousness moments later, but will not be able to walk on his own for another 20 minutes (2 turns). Next Step: Describe how you will proceed and then roll .turn dice. (edited)

Chase continues to search the room and asks Hagar if he can give him a hand walking or if he needs a moment to rest. He then looks cautiously into the next room to see what’s in there.

Hagar deliriously mumbles “I definitely need a moment, Chase. That was a little too close for comfort. I’m starting to think this place is not entirely friendly to visitors.’ With that he lies flat, closes his eyes, and hopes his coordination and the feelings in his limbs return soon.

After killing the Diger, everyone splits up the XP, so you each earn 5 XP. You should each update your characters in #characters with your current XP. Based on what I’ve tracked, you have the following (your character’s XP bonus is in parenthesis):
  • Weert: 127 (+10%)
  • Hagar: 127 (+10%)
  • Chase: 200 (+5%)
  • Wirlt: 127 (+10%)
  • Krislee: 128 (0%)
  • Leng: 6 (+10%)
Also, you should update your character inventory with the items you have found:
  • Weert: Unknown wand
  • Wirlt: Jailor’s keys
  • Leng: Gold key on chain

Hagar lies still and ponders. He’ll need to wait another turn before he can get up and move. Weert decides to study the wand he found in the dining hall to try to determine what it does while waiting for Hagar to regain his strength enough to walk again. Krislee searches the north side of the room on the far side of the pool. She finds nothing other than the seven bottles of oil. However, as she opens and smells each, one of the seven does not smell like oil at all, but may be a potion of some sort. Chase examines the peacock feather fan, but it falls apart as he tries to move it. He searches the towels on the west side of the pool, finding nothing. When he moves to the door in the SW wall, he finds it is locked. Wirlt searches the towels on the east side of the pool until she hears from Chase that the SW door is locked. Finding nothing in the towels, she moves over to the door and attempts to pick the lock. She is successful, and the door swings open to reveal just the same white marble stone wall on the other side. It was a false door. Leng searches the south side of the room, but finds nothing of importance. Next Step: Describe how you will proceed and then roll .turn dice.

Hagar enjoys the cool floor and the solidity of its unyielding embrace as he tries to shake off the paralysis. He also internally contemplates his choices in life and how he might use the proceeds from this adventure (assuming he survives) to find a sweet maiden and settle down someplace quiet and filled with trees.

Krislee puts a drop of the potion on her tongue, and immediately gets the impression that Hagar is thinking about a quiet place with trees. (Its a Potion of ESP - I’ll put a full description in #water-cooler) Leng, Chase, and Wirlt continue to search the room for anything of interest, finding nothing at first. For Weerlt, the runes on the wand, and the way it has reacted to his experimentation suddenly fall into place. “It’s a Wand of Secret Door Detection!” he says happily. (I’ll also put a full description of it in #water-cooler) At the same time, Leng finds a small lever in a crack in the south wall, which opens a secret door there. “You can save the wand for another door then!”, he says. Everyone gathers at the secret door, including Hagar, who is able to walk again. Upon entering this room, the first thing you notice is a small, pink marble pedestal about dwarf size in height. Your light gleams off of a small object atop the pedestal. The object is silver in color. Other than the pedestal the room seems to be empty. As you approach it, a green glow surrounds the pedestal. In the midst of the glow you see the face of a transparent green man. He speaks one word, "Beware!" then he disappears along with the green glow. You see that the object on the pedestal is a silver pendant, which begins to radiate a silver glow that illuminates the entire room. Next Step: Describe how you will proceed and then roll .turn dice.

Krislee swings at the pendant, hitting it (made your saving throw with a 17 roll), sending it flying directly at Hagar. Despite his laughter, he is able to reach up and catch the pendant in his hand (Activity roll of 18). Everyone immediately stops laughing. +50 XP to everyone for solving this little puzzle before everyone was incapacitated by laughter 🙂 After taking a few minutes of rest, you decide to go ahead and open the secret door to the west and look through it (I’m making the assumption you would want to explore more, to move the story along.) This hexagonal room, much like the other ones, is decorated with mosaic tiles. The mosaic covers the entire room, the walls, the floor and ceiling. The scenes are of a red dragon mounted by a man in silver and blue armor giving chase to a young maiden wearing a silver gown and a silver and ruby coronet. Another scene depicts elves playing in the woods while a red dragon watches them from his hiding place behind two tall pines. On one wall is a pool of bright blue water with a shimmering diamond floating on a lily paid, and several mermaids swimming and splashing each other near it. The design on the floor shows the maiden, man and dragon curled up asleep around a key hole. (To clarify, the keyhole in the floor is a literal keyhole, not a mosaic design.) The keyhole in the floor starts to emit a blue white glow. Next Step: Describe how you will proceed and then roll .turn dice.

The party moves carefully into the room, Hagar and Chase first, followed by Krislee and Leng in the middle, Weert and Wirlt bringing up the rear. Leng fits the golden key on the chain into the glowing keyhole in the floor. It fits, so he turns it! As the key is turned, the secret door in the east wall swings closed, and all of your lights (lamps and torches) are extinguished. Then, a couple of feet out from the middle of the west wall, a long silver sword appears, floating in the air. The sword glows with a bright blue-white light, easily lighting up the whole room. As Hagar reaches for the sword, there is a flash of blue white light, and in the blink of an eye, a man that is fully armored in silver and blue armor (the one depicted in the murals) appears beside the sword, takes it, and attacks Hagar! Hagar is surprised (rolled a 1) so does not get to fight back this round.

The fighter easily (needed to roll a 2 or higher on a d20 to hit) hits Hagar hard (for 12 points of damage rolled an 8, +1 sword, +3 strength), knocking him down to 0 hit points. He's unconscious! Next Step: Describe your combat actions for the next 2 rounds, roll .combat and then roll .{weapon} for damage. The attack was so quick that Chase is not able to attack this round, even though he was anticipating something - @The Dude (Steve), you can roll again or just keep the rolls you already made for the next 2 rounds. Round 2:
  • Weert throws his dagger at the Fighter, but misses by a lot! (rolled a 3, needed 17+)
  • Wirlt is too far away to swing at the Fighter, this round, so she moves northwest around Leng to get in a position to attack next round (good thing too, she rolled a 1 to attack this round)
  • Chase swings hard at the Fighter, hitting him for 9 points of damage! The Fighter doesn’t seem to notice that he’s been hit.
  • Krislee swings hard at the Fighter too, hitting him for 6 points of damage! The Fighter fights on as if nothing happened.
  • Leng swings at the Fighter with his mace, but misses. (rolled a 7, needed a 16+)
  • The Fighter swings at Chase, hitting him hard, for 9 points of damage! Chase is down to 2 hit points. Round 3:
  • Chase, shaken by the first hit from the Fighter, swings at him again, but misses!
  • Krislee, clearly ready to do some damage, hits the fighter with a natural 20 roll! She does +2 additional damage, for a total of 7 hp damage. The swing was at the Fighter’s spine and should have paralyzed him. The Fighter stops, disappears, then reappears at the same spot, grabs the sword again, and continues to attack! There is clearly some high level magic going on here.
  • Weert, unsure of what to do next just remains in a defensive position.
  • Leng attempts to attack the Fighter again, but is unable to penetrate his defenses.
  • The Fighter swings at Chase yet again, hitting him for 6 points of damage, knocking him down to 0 hit points, he's unconscious! Next Step:
Describe your combat actions for the next 2 rounds, roll .combat and then roll .{weapon} for damage. Poor Hagar and Chase are both unconscious, so can’t do anything to assist 😦

Round 4: Weert casts a Magic Missile spell at the Fighter. It barely hurts him, for only 2 points of damage. Krislee swings at the Fighter again, but is not able to hurt him this time. Leng casts his Cure Light Wounds spell on Hagar, healing him for 4 HP. Hagar wakes up. Wirlt swings her sword at the Fighter, but misses! The Fighter, seeing Leng holding still while healing Hagar, knocks him over the head with his sword for 9 points of damage, knocking him unconscious (down to 0 HP)! Immediately after knocking Leng unconscious, the Fighter disappears! The glowing sword drops to the ground, and Chase and Leng both wake up. Hagar, Chase, and Leng all realize that they are not wounded at all, are perfectly fine (with full HP), and that they had just been magically asleep. This was one weird and powerful illusion, to make you all think you were being mortally wounded. What is clear though, is that the sword is real. It is lying in the middle of the floor, still glowing with the blue white light. Unfortunately, both Leng and Weert have now used their spells for the day, you will need to sleep tonight to regain spells for tomorrow. It is now 4:00pm, so you have a potential 3 more hours of adventuring today you can do before you will absolutely need to rest for the night. Next Step: Describe how you will proceed and then roll .turn dice.

Staggering to his feet, Hagar shuffles over to the sword points at it and says “today I have made many bad decisions. I have been paralyzed and knocked out. At this point, even as much as I suspect it may be folly, I am taking the damn sword for my own.” Angrily mumbling he adds “Unless, anyone feels they have claim?” He then reaches for the sword.

Congratulations Hagar, you now have a Sword +1 that constantly glows a bright, blue-white light, enough that you shouldn’t need to light lanterns or torches if you don’t want to. You search the room, and find nothing else of note, except that the keyhole in the floor has stopped glowing. The gold key on a chain is still inserted into the keyhole. You are able to re-open the secret door. Next Step: Describe how you will proceed and then roll .turn dice.

After a few minutes spent admiring his new sword and how well it feels in the hand, Hagar says “Okay let’s take the key with us and check out the south wall in the previous room. It seems like there ought to be another room if we can find it.” He proceeds to walk out to the previous (square) room and start searching the south wall for signs of a door. (edited)
