Blackjack, Amethist, and Hagar go to the prisoners, and see that the manacles are held to the floor by a large metal spike with an attached ring that has been driven into the mortar between stones. The locks are of crude workmanship, and Blackjack is easily able to pick them, freeing the prisoners.
They identify themselves as Malcolm Hepplewhite and Mariano Trendall, and they reveal that they were kidnapped along with others from the village by a group bandits and goblins. The bandit leader calls himself “Sir” Roenald, and he fancies himself a knight and a gentleman, although he is obviously a low-life. Ronald has aligned himself with the goblins and the hobgoblins in an attempt to collect a ransom from the 12 prisoners’ loved ones. The prisoners have been split up and held in different areas of the keep. Malcolm and Mariano are the only two that were brought into this tower.
As the prisoners are talking, Amethist and Whisper begin searching the room, while Angar searches the hobgoblin bodies.
Amethist easily finds a locked iron box under the office desk, where a chair would normally sit and asks Angar if he has found any keys on the hobgoblins. Angar finds a key on a leather thong around the neck of Hobgoblin 4, and he tosses it to Amethist, who unlocks the iron box. It contains four small sacks, three containing 100 sp each and one containing 200 sp and a gold and emerald necklace worth 1100 gp.
Meanwhile, Whisper has searched the room for secret doors and found none in the walls. However, while moving the circular rug and knocking the 2 crude stools over, he does find a trapdoor in the floor.
For killing the 4 hobgoblins, the party earns 60 XP to split between each member.
For finding the treasure, the party earns 1150 XP to split between each member.
For finding and freeing 2 prisoners, the party earns 200 XP each.
The total XP to add to each of your characters is 442 XP.
